Actually astonishing landscapes are the scenarios of impressive mining buildings: our visit is aimed to discover that unique locations and breathtaking coastal view.

The visit to the mines on the Iglesiente sea starts from the beach of Fontanamare, goes to the wonderful Belvedere of Nebida and the unique Laveria La Marmora mining site, goes on to the beach of Masua to end to Porto Flavia, the amazing mining harbor overlooking the sea.

Overview

The Iglesiente Mines on the sea Guided Tour allows everyone to discover the beautiful mining sites of South Sardinia and catch the spirit of the grand past that made this territory the most important mining area of Italy.

The scenarios are all astonishing with a unique combination of nature and mining art. We start from the beach of Fontanamare to see the remains of a imposing gallery that connected the mines of Iglesias to the sea, then we visit the Belvedere of Nebida, the Laveria La Marmora site, the spectacular beach of Masua, the Porto Flavia mining harbor.

Itinerary

The visit to the mines on the Iglesiente sea starts from the beach of Fontanamare, the beautiful 4 km long strip of sand that we meet as soon as we go towards the Iglesiente sea.
Here we will observe the final part of the Gallery "Umberto 1°" for the eduction of the waters from the mine, an imposing work that connects the Monteponi Mine with the Fontanamare beach built starting from 1880. In front of the beach there are some mining buildings that represent the remains of a foundry, as an ancient chimney pot.
The next stop is the mining village of Nebida and the Laveria La Marmora, a massive mining construction by the beautiful sea of ​​Nebida.
Once in Nebida, we will descend along the steep slope to admire this evocative monument nicknamed the "colosseum of mining art”, telling the story and the machinery of Laveria La Marmora.
Then we will go up to the Belvedere of Nebida to admire the landscape of the five stacks that characterize the Iglesiente coast, observing the oldest rocks in Europe, which also includes the famous Faraglione di Pan di Zucchero, taking the opportunity to talk about the exceptional geological history of this territory.
We will then move to the beautiful beaches of Masua, making a short stop in the mining area, to observe from above the old structures of what was once one of the most important mining district in Sardinia. Then we will visit Masua beach with the ancient pier from which the racks were loaded and we will make the last stop in Porto Flavia, the famous mining port on the sea, where, whoever wishes, can visit the inside of the gallery (10€, not included).
