The 6-Day Trekking in North-West Sardinia between Alghero and Bosa is in the North-West coast of Sardinia, known for the beauty of its sea, but also for the authentic uniqueness of its landscapes. Additionally, close to the coast are two of the most beautiful towns in Sardinia: the famous Alghero and the colorful Bosa.
The six-day trek between Alghero and Bosa aims to slowly discover the beauty of these territories during a period when spring colors and floral displays are at their peak. Proposed by Tiziana Dedola, a Hiking Guide and also a Tourist Guide, this experience will allow you to immerse in nature, while also paying attention to the history and culture of the area.
The six-day trek between Alghero and Bosa will lead you along the spectacular north-western coast of Sardinia, alternating between the limestone cliffs of Alghero and the reddish cliffs of Bosa, with a final foray into the mountainous hinterland.
The journey combines wild marine landscapes, mining heritage, and cultural visits; the ideal trek for intermediate-level hikers, with an average of 10 km per day and always manageable uphills.
The journey starts from Alghero, a wonderful city with a Sardinian-Catalan identity. The adventure begins in the heart of the evocative Porto Conte Regional Park. Starting from Maristella, you follow a shaded path that leads towards the Punta Giglio promontory. This route leads to a former World War II military outpost, recently renovated and enhanced, which offers unique 360-degree views of the coast and the gulf.
On the second day, you visit the splendid Capo Caccia promontory, from the picturesque Cala Dragunara towards the Torre della Penya, which offers a commanding view of the entire western coast of Alghero. The trek continues with a descent towards the Isola Foradada viewpoint and towards (if possible) a visit to the famous Neptune’s Grotto: you descend the 650 steps of the panoramic Escala del Cabirol down to sea level, before returning slowly to the starting point.
On the third day, you push north of Alghero towards the Argentiera mining area to follow a short, but very panoramic trek with a few steeper sections to reach Punta Argentiera, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view southwards to admire the locations of the previous days’ treks, and northwards to the extreme limit of Sardinia. In the afternoon, you move towards Bosa.
On the fourth day, you venture along the coast south of Bosa, in the territory of Tresnuraghes. Here the path skirts several historic watchtowers: Torre Foghe, Torre di Ischia Ruggia, and Torre di Columbargia, from which you can enjoy breathtaking views.
In the afternoon we’ll visit the beautiful city of Bosa.
The fifth day is dedicated to a marine area north of Bosa, known for the exceptional presence of griffon vultures, which nest on the cliffs. The out-and-back route starts from a dirt road and descends towards Porto Managu, a beach accessible only on foot. From here, the path climbs up the coast, crossing small fords and rocky canyons towards Cala Giunchezza, Cala Santa Maria, and finally Cala Bernardu, all exclusively accessible on foot or by boat. You return along the same path.
On the last day, you move inland, into the Marghine region, to walk towards one of its highest peaks, Punta Palai at 1200 meters above sea level, experiencing for one day an unusual landscape for Sardinia, with mountain tree forests and extremely rare specimens of ancient yews (taxis), in the beautiful Badde Salighes forest in Bolotana.
The North Sardinia trek concludes here.
