Nebida is an old mining village in the South West Coast of Sardinia. Here you can enjoy one of the most beautiful landscapes in Sardinia.
Built between the mines and the sea, Nebida stands out in front of the Iglesiente coast and its multicolored rocks, leaving breathless those who visit its belvedere and admire its most famous construction, Laveria La Marmora. It’s a mining washing plant built in 1897, called the “colosseum of mining art” for the beauty of its architecture and the perfect integration in the environment.
The 2-hour tour starts from the Belvedere of Nebida from which you can admire on one side the impressive mining holes on the hills, on the other the wonderful glimpse of the sea of the five stacks, including the imposing stack of Pan di Zucchero and the multicolored rocks that make this area a unique geological one.
The mining history of Nebida is the same of the entire Iglesiente and makes it a symbol of the industrial past full of charm. We will then head to visit Laveria La Marmora, a mining structure overlooking the sea, used to “clean” the mineral from impurities.
We will descend from one of the old access roads to the Laveria and slowly we will admire marvelous views. Between sky and sea we will reach the level of the La Marmora tunnel and admire the stone arches of Laveria from the outside, talking about the uses and functions of this impressive mining work.
We will slowly ascend the famous 400 steps to enjoy the surrounding landscape and admire the other Laveria of Nebida from above, the Laveria Carroccia or Chessa. Return to the Belvedere square and visit the exterior of an old miners’ house, ending the visit where it began.
